Well folks, we did it. Last night (October 14, 1998)
at approximately 2100 hrs., we created a NEW Local chapter of
the National Wild Turkey Federation.
The new chapter named "Full Strut" is based in Columbia, Maryland.
This chapter will be a fully affiliated member of
the Maryland State Chapter, as well as of the National organization.
The First organizational meeting was held at
DICK'S SPORTING GOODS in Columbia, Maryland.
The meeting started at 7:00pm with introductions,
some light chatter and story telling, then proceeded to the business
at hand...creating a new chapter.
Regional Director (MD, DE, NJ) Hank Patton was on hand to familiarize
everyone as to what is involved, and what the goals of the NWTF are,
as well as what to expect back from the work involved in creating a
successful chapter.
After the information segment, we decided that this WAS something
we all wanted to do, and so we appointed Officers for the first term,
which will be for one year. At the end of the first year, nominations
will be received for officer positions for the next term, which will
be for two years and then elections will be held.
The new chapter will serve the areas surrounding Columbia, including
Laurel, Woodbine, Clarksville, Dayton, Ellicott City, Sykesville, etc.
Officers:
Frank Turney - President
Michael Tartal - Vice President
Warren Duvall - Secretary
John Shipley - Treasurer
Tracy Ford, former Central Maryland Chapter and
Maryland State Chapter President, was on hand to give encouragement to
the new Chapter's Officers.
Also present were:
Pete Mortensen - former secretary of the Central Maryland Chapter,
Robert Fiscus - Former Treasurer of the Central Maryland Chapter,
Melody Day - Wildlife Artist,
Gary Sumeriski - Commitee member of the Central Maryland Chapter.
Brian Blank - Sales Manager, DICK'S SPORTING GOODS
A motion was made by Warren Duvall to name the new Chapter "Full Strut".
Motion was seconded by Sean Kelly.
A vote was taken.
All present members and new Officers voted in favor of "Full Strut".
Application was made to form the new Chapter.
Several new Memberships were taken even before the meeting was
adjourned, including several employees of DICK'S SPORTING GOODS.
We would like to especially thank Hank Patton for his time and
effort in getting us started, the support of everyone who showed up from
the Central Maryland Chapter, and last but not least,
DICK'S SPORTING GOODS for allowing us to use the store for meetings etc.,
particularly Brian Blank (Sales Manager) for initiating the process and
putting the wheels in motion.
- Warren Duvall
Chapter Secretary

Preparations are under way for our second SUPERFUND Banquet,
