Approximately 20-25 new members have registered since I re-opened registrations a few days ago.....TWO of them were authentic hunters! The rest were spammers simply trying to post a website address in their profiles to push sex or drug websites. It really is sad that people have nothing better to do than actively seek out a site that is all but dead and has had registrations turned off for MONTHS, and be waiting at the door when it opens again, just to put a URL in a damn profile. It won't even be seen by anyone anyway because, even though you can enter it in when you register, I took out the code in the page that would display it. I also went through ALL of the registered members and listed all of the members with ZERO posts, and found that even about 20 or so HUNTING members were pushing a website without having made a single post. They too were deleted. I think it may be time to just bulldoze the place over.....It just isn't worth the effort anymore.

Yup,it's a damn shame that we've arrived at this point. And I guess I'm part of the problem too, not comin' in often enough. Warren took this on without alot of help, makin' a place for turkey-hunters to hang-out and we didn't support his efforts. All I can say is, I'll try to post and visit the chat-room more often, until its over. May all that visit here have your best spring ever turkey-huntin'. Jim IP: 70.130.217.37 |

Jim, Neither you nor any other regular member has any blame in this. I started my web page almost 15 years ago because I love turkey hunting. There was almost nothing on the Internet about hunting turkeys and I just wanted to share a little of my knowledge and let other hunters do the same. I wanted a place where newbies & experienced hunters alike could learn from each other by giving them a new resource. I didn't mind all the time & effort back when I had the time, but now it's different. I don't have the time to devote to it anymore. The money for the domain and the server isn't really an issue. That's the only reason I haven't shut it down already. But if I have to continue to weed out asshole spammers and can't allow new members to freely register, than what good is it? We'll see what happens, I'm actually considering looking at other software that may have more security features to combat these types of things. If I find something I like and it isn't too expensive and I can find time to muck with it, I may give it a try. Not 100% on shutting down just yet.IP: 68.236.255.104 | |
